Asian American Comedians Panel & Bobby Lee

Check this out people— the Asian Pacific Islander Cultural Center will be holding a panel on the next generation of Asian American stand up comedians. I think it will be really interesting to see what comedians will say about the current trend. I'll give my two cents but you can only hear about it at this event. Come out!

Hey Edwin, this is Ian I was sitting in the front row and asked the rude question of "tell us a joke!"

But anyway, here are a couple of videos from that panel discussion.

One question I wish I asked that night, but did not, was that how do you guys feel about the rise of purely YouTube comedians, and especially knowing that two of YouTube's top subscribees are both Asian American? If you watch Ryan Higa or Kevin Wu's videos, they are only funny in a self-deprecating, very slapstick kind of way. Sometimes they poke fun at the stereotypes, other times, they reinforce the stereotypes against Asians for comic effect. Yet their following is huge, and no doubt among them are many Asian Americans as well.

I wonder what your thoughts are, as I certainly can't figure them out quite yet. Let's put it this way, if you put those two guys on a stage, can they still be funny?
